Elske started her training in Canberra, Australia at the Canberra School of Art. She was taught by Mandy Martin and Bob Boynes. Her education continued in The Hague, Holland at the Vrije Academie. In the summer of 2007 she took a master class: Techniques of the Old Masters, in Florence, Italy at the Florence Academy of Art. Later Elske studied with Ed van der Kooy and took a masterclasses with Sam Drukker and Teresa Oaxaca.

Next to her formal training her life’s experiences helped her form her vision as an artist. She came across and befriended many people from different cultures all over the world in her working and travelling life. She has lived in several countries and had the opportunity to study, paint and work there closely with the local population. She wants her portraits to reflect the dignity and innate kindness of every human being.
